DHAKA, Bangladesh: The five-team T20 Asia Cup is set to begin at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on Wednesday with the opening match between India and Bangladesh.
Besides India and Bangladesh, three other teams include Pakistan, Sri Lanka and United Arab Emirates (UAE).
This is the first time, Asia Cup is being played in T20 format as previously it consisted of 50-over games.
The tournament will continue till April 3 and all matches will be played in the same venue.
The next match of the Asia Cup 2016 will take place between defending champion Sri Lanka and UAE on Thursday whereas Pakistan will play its first match against India on Saturday.
India is currently placed at number one position in International Cricket Council (ICC) T20 rankings whereas Bangladesh is at 10th position. As it is obvious in the ICC T20 rankings, India has a much better recent record in the shortest format of the game than Bangladesh.
Of its last five T20 matches, India won four games while Bangladesh secured victories in only two games of recent five.
