SportsNo sports tournament held in Islamabad educational institutions since 7 years

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Since last seven years, no sports tournament has been organized in educational institutions of the Federal Capital which are also facing scarcity of Health and Physical Education Teachers.

Three ministries including Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD), Federal Education Ministry and Inter-Provincial Coordination Ministry are jointly responsible for organizing sports activities in 423 educational institutions including 390 schools and 33 male/female colleges located in Islamabad.

However, no Inter-school/college tournament has been organized at Zonal or Central level in the Federal Capital since seven years, according to a report published by Daily Express.

The report stated that youth has become addicted to drugs while sports grounds remain desolate. There is also a shortage of Health & Physical Education Teachers at school level whereas no Squash Court exits in any of 423 educational institutions.

Prior to that, tournaments were organized in Federal Directorate of Education’s (FDE) sub-departments; however, no such activity has been held again since 2010.

The exports have demanded the concerned ministries to implement the Revised Sports Policy 2009, enforce Sports Emergency, ensure provision of funds, fill the shortage of teachers, and formally organize annual competitions in the Federal Capital.

Sources said that though most of educational institutions in the Federal Capital have grounds but they need to be renovated.
