ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The National Assembly was told that disciplinary action has been taken against the concerned officials by the Pakistan Television Corporation (PTVC) Management for failure to acquire FIFA World Cup 2022.
Replying to a question, the Minister for information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb confirmed to the House that PTV failed to telecast FIFA World Cup 2022 matches live in Qatar.
The information minister said that historically PTVC never missed any FIFA World Cup and being a State Channel, it is an obligation and responsibility to broadcast such a premier event on National TV.
Marriyum Aurangzeb said that no doubt the majority of the population was deprived of watching the most prestigious event in the world and in Pakistan.
The minister said that PTV could have made a slight profit or break even with the television and digital broadcast rights of the event which can further be sub-licensed to cover the acquisition cost.
It was mandatory to broadcast the FlFA World Cup 2022 as a State Broadcaster, she said.
Marriyum Aurangzeb told that a three-memer Committee has been constituted by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to probe further into the matter and necessary action would be taken in the light of findings and recommendations submitted by the Enquiry Committee.
