ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Water accumulation on various roads and streets of twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi after continued rain spell is causing immense problems to motorists and residents besides raising question mark on the performance of authorities concerned.

Contrary to the claims of officials concerned that they have all the preparation to cope with the situation, the ground realities speak the opposite as some of the areas of Rawalpindi are posing as ponds after the recent rains including Arya Mohalla, Rata Amral, Javid Colony, Pirwadhai, Dhok Saidain, Multani Mohalla and Pindora Chongi owing to blockage of sewerage lines.

On the other hand, significant improvement in water level has been noted during the past one month at Rawal Lake, Simly Dam and Khanpur Dam due to recent rains in the hills of Murree and Hazara.

Adding to the gravity of the situation, the uncapped manholes on various roads could contribute to traffic accidents.

Residents of the F-block talking to APP criticized the authorities for their irresponsible attitude in this regard as rainwater accumulates at various points on the road and its dilapidated condition troubles them as well.

They said open manholes on the road could be truly termed as death holes as accidents have become a routine during night time.

When contacted, Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA), an official said,” Teams have been deployed at various localities to drain water by clearing sewerage lines and soon residents would see a positive change.”
