QUETTA, Pakistan: Chief Minister Balochistan Nawab Sanaullah Khan Zehri has assured that government would provide required resources for expansion and making functional of Pasni Fish Harbour (PFH).
“Government will take concrete steps for the development of fisheries sector and for the welfare of fishermen”, he said.
He was presiding over a meeting to review the rehabilitation of Pasni Fish Harbor here on Friday. Chief Secretary Balochistan Saifullah Chattah, Additional ACS, Nasibullah Bazai, Secretary Fisheries, Finance and other officials were present on the occasion.
Secretary Fisheries, Arshad Bugti briefed the meeting about the rehabilitation of Pasni Fish Harbour.
Chief Minister Nawab Sanaullah Khan Zehri said that PFH has great importance in providing jobs to local fishermen and exporting of different variety of fishes from Balochistan. However, he said that owing to no dredging and other issues the harbor is dysfunctional for a long period.
He directed authorities concerned for making functional PFH as soon as possible, adding that the projects funded by Japan for the rehabilitation of PFH should be executed on stipulated time.
“Government would provide every possible assistance and support for the timely restoration of harbor,” he said.
Expressing resentment over delay in rehabilitation of on stipulated time, Chief Minister directed the authorities concerned for constituting a plan within a week in this connection.
“Government would provide required funds and resources for timely restoration of PFH,” he assured.
He also directed for declaring Managing Director (MD) of Pasni Fish Harbor Authority as Project Director (PD) Pasni Fish Authority Project.
Earlier, briefing the meeting about the Pasni Fish Harbor, MD Pasni Fish Harbor said that in 2010 the rehabilitation of Pasni Fish Harbor was started through grant of Japan and out of its three main components merely its dredging was started. He said that due to lack of funds the pace of dredging and other works is slow.
Chief Minister assured for provision of funds and directed for early restoration of the harbor so that local people and the province could tap the benefits of this harbor.
