KARACHI, Pakistan: The Sindh Minister for Health Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar has said that the Sindh government was committed to make the province polio free and all stakeholders were supposed to get united on one platform to eradicate polio in the province.
In a statement issued here on Friday, he said that during anti polio drive in various 16 towns in Karachi and 14 other districts of the province, so far 4,973,423 children had been administered polio drops while the stipulated target was 4,919,693 children under 5 years.
He added that 335,390 children in Dadu, 334,126 children in Ghotki, 316,144 children in Hyderabad, 220,075 children in Jacobabad, 62,715 children in Jamshoro, 275,866 children in Kamber, 223,253 children in Kashmore, 432,205 children in Khairpur, 308,332 children in Larkana, 287,977 children in Nausharo Feroz, 397,467 children in Sanghar, 331,153 children in Shikarpur and 281,142 children in Sukkur have been administered polio drops.
The Health Minister said in the next phase, anti-polio campaign from October 28 to 31, in 5 towns of Karachi which include Gulberg, Liaquatabad, North Karachi, Gulshan-e-Iqbal and Gadap would be launched in 20 Union councils.
He said that number of refusal cases were 4765, however, efforts were being made to bring refusal case to zero, through consultation and active support of civil society.
