Karachi, Pakistan: The Commissioner of Karachi Shoaib Siddiqui believes that 25 persons were drowned at Sea View Karachi beach on Wednesday (second day of Eid holidays) when they were drown in rough sea while swimming. The exact number of drown persons are still unknown because people come from all over the Sindh for swimming on Eid days and majority for them are usually young boys.

There is a ban for swimming on this spot for going into the waters due to extreme rough sea and deep waters and all the victims went into prohibited regions despite restrictions.

Coast guards are still working to find more dead bodies and rescue operation to search missing persons is continued for the last two days.

This beach spot is known as Killer Beach and every Eid holidays brought stories of drowning people at Sea View and Hawks by Karachi. Government has not posted life guards at any of beach of Pakistan while beaches are open for swimming except Sea View where this unfortunate incident took place. The ban to bath in Karachi Sea could not be enforced on the occasion of Eid, resulting in thousands arriving to the Clifton and Hawke’s Bay for recreational purpose.

The administration had imposed ban under Section 144 on entering or bathing in the sea. However, violating the ban, thousands of people rushed towards the city beaches on the second of Eid resulting in the unfortunate incident of drowning.

Thirty people went missing as the sea waves hit the Sea View area of Karachi on Wednesday. The search operation was launched with the help of Navy helicopters as well as civil authorities. There are conflicting reports about total number of drowned people. Local administration claimed 30 people are missing while there are 40 families gather at spot and claiming their relatives have drowned.

Prime Minister of Pakistan Mian Nawaz Sharif condoled the incident and ordered Pakistan Navy to help local administration in rescue operation. Navy divers and the coast guards are still searching for drowned victims. Ten bodies have been identified and handed over to their relatives. The families of the missing victims have gathered at the beach since Wednesday night and waiting to know the fate of their loved ones. Security has been tightened at the beach and strict measures are being taken to prevent people from bathing in the sea. The security has appealed to the people not to defy the ban on entering the sea as during the monsoon the sea is rough and dangerous. Meanwhile, Chief Minister of Sindh, Syed Qaim Ali Shah has sought a detailed report about the incident.

The Sea view beach is a section of Clifton beach located in Clifton area of Karachi Pakistan. It is one of the most popular entertainment sites in Karachi. The beach needs serious attention and consideration of the city government, as the area has become dangerous for swimmer who despite of ban come here for swim.

Sea view has a number of restaurants and this Beach is the only cheapest and easily accessible picnic point of Karachi.
