PoliticsSC rejects intra-court appeal filed by Secretary Defense in contempt case

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Monday dismissed an intra-court appeal of Secretary Defence Lt-Gen (retd) Asif Yasin Malik and upheld his indictment over contempt of court charges.

A five-member larger bench of the apex court announced the verdict.

The apex court had halted contempt of court proceedings against the secretary defence until a decision was made on the intra-court appeal. After the dismissal of the intra-court appeal, the Supreme Court will start contempt of court proceedings against him on November 20.

The court had indicted the secretary defence  for not complying with its orders to hold local bodies elections in cantonment boards.
