World Hepatitis Day today

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The World Hepatitis Day is being observed throughout the world including Pakistan on Monday to increase the awareness and understanding of viral hepatitis and the diseases that it causes.

The day observed on July 28 every year, aims to raise global awareness of hepatitis — a group of infectious diseases known as Hepatitis A, B, C, D, and E — and encourage prevention, diagnosis and treatment.

Hepatitis affects hundreds of millions of people worldwide, causing acute and chronic disease and killing close to 1.4 million people every year.

In order to learn more about Hepatitis and its consequences, events have been arranged in different parts of Pakistan as the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) has chalked out an elaborate programme for public education and awareness from 9.00 am to 4.00 pm at the institute in Karachi today.

Likewise, the Agha Khan University Hospital Karachi and the Pakistan Society for the Study of Liver Diseases also jointly arranged an awareness session titled “Hepatitis: Think Again” at Agha Khan Hospital from 11.00 am to 1.00 am on Sunday.
