ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday directed to review strategy to improve law and order situation in Karachi in view the violent incidents of the city‚ particularly in Lyari.
Earlier in the day, a series of hand grenade blasts occurred in Lyari area of Karachi that killed at least 12 persons including women and children, and injured more than 30 others.
A spokesperson of the PM Office in Islamabad said that that the prime minister today discussed the law and order situation in Karachi with Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan and discussed various options to improve it.
The prime minister decided that he would visit Karachi this week to personally monitor the situation and give new directions to improve law and order there, the spokesman said. He said that during his visit to Karachi the prime minister will get briefing from all heads of security institutions.
The spokesperson said that Director General Rangers also briefed the prime minister regarding incidents of violence in Lyari and presented a report in this regard.
