NSC resolves to eliminate terrorism on long-term basis

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The national security conference met on Saturday with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the chair, during which there was absolute unanimity of views on the need to evolve a strategy to eliminate terrorism on long-term basis.

The conference was attended by the chief ministers, federal ministers, Chief of Army Staff Raheel Sharif, Director General Inter-Services Intelligence Lt-Gen Zaheerul Islam, Director General Military Operations Major General Amir Riaz and other senior officers.

The DG military operations briefed the political leadership about the ongoing military operation Zarb-e-Azb against militants in the North Waziristan tribal region and the status of objectives achieved so far.

The participants of the conference were informed about the areas cleared by the armed forces during the operation. The conference was also told that the militants are on the run and their command and control system had been crippled.

The representatives of all political and religious parties agreed that state has to fight and eliminate militancy. The whole meeting paid tribute to the armed forces for successful operation.

The meeting was apprised that through coordinated efforts of the armed forces, financing of terror outfits is being blocked.

It was also stated that adequate resources are being mobilized for management of the internally displaced persons (IDPs) and they will not be abandoned at all costs. It was told that the government has also planned a comprehensive strategy for the rehabilitation and resettlement of the IDPs.

The participants of the meeting showed satisfaction over IDPs management.
