Metro bus service in Rawalpindi-Islamabad, Faisalabad‚ Multan

LAHORE: The metro bus projects will be launched in Faisalabad‚ Multan and Rawalpindi-Islamabad in 2014, media reported on Saturday.

A meeting of the Punjab cabinet was held in Lahore on Saturday with Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif in the chair that approved the projects.

During the meeting, the chief minister advised concerned authorities to complete the projects in stipulated time.

The chief minister said that said that the government wanted to facilitate the people of the province in every field including that of transport.

The sources from the provincial government said that the foundation laying for the Rawalpindi-Islamabad metro bus project will be held on February 28. The project will cost Rs 38 billion and it will be completed in 11 months, they said.

On February 10 last year, the Punjab government inaugurated the country’s first metro bus service in Lahore.

The project, which cost roughly Rs 30 billion, was completed in the short span of one year. Under the service, 115 metro buses, with a capacity three times that of ordinary buses, run along a 27km corridor, from Gajju Matta to Shahdra, in Lahore.
