LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said on Saturday that a judicial inquiry has been ordered into Rawalpindi incident that left at least 12 persons killed, and said that those involved in the incident will be brought to justice.
Talking to media representatives in Lahore, Sharif said that he will request the Lahore High Court to appoint a senior judge for investigation into the incident.
The chief minister also sought a report of the incident from Divisional Commissioner and Regional Police Officer Rawalpindi.
On Friday, clashes erupted between two groups in relation to the harassment of an Ashura procession in Rawalpindi’s Raja Bazar area, killing at least 12 persons and injuring more than 37 others.
The situation prompted the authorities to place a curfew in the jurisdiction of 19 police stations including Rawal Town‚ Potohar Town and Cantonment areas of Rawalpindi till midnight tonight due to tense situation.
