Shahbaz Sharif orders arrest of Dr Tahirul Qadri, Punjab govt denies

LAHORE, Pakistan: The Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif has reportedly ordered the law enforcement agencies to arrest the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) leader Dr Tahirul Qadri and register cases against him under anti-terror clauses.

The sources said that the decision to arrest Dr Tahirul Qadri was taken on recommendation by the Joint Investigation Team (JIT). They further said that his name will also be included in the exit control list (ECL).

However, the provincial government said that the chief minister has not issued any orders to arrest Tahirul Qadri nor has a decision in this regard been taken.

Meanwhile, a severe clash continues between police and the PAT workers in the Model Town area of Lahore.

At least three policemen have been injured who were shifted to Jinnah Hospital for medical treatment while six PTA workers were taken into custody by the police.

It comes after the PAT workers removed barricades around Minhajul Quran Secretariat placed by the Punjab government as a security measure ahead of the PAT Youm-e-Shuda scheduled for August 10.
