PTI will not contest by-election for NA-149 Multan-II

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) will not contest by-election for NA-149 Multan-II scheduled to be held on October 16, the party’s senior leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi said in a statement.

The seat fell vacant after the resignation of Makhdoom Javed Hashmi on September 2.

Hashmi resigned from his National Assembly seat during the joint session of the parliament, a couple of days after he distanced himself from the protest sit-ins organised by the PTI and the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) in Islamabad when the two parties decided to mount a march on the official residence of the prime minister.

It is likely that Javed Hashmi would contest the by-election from NA-149 as an independent candidate; however, he would have a full support of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
