NewsPTI Lahore Jalsa: Nawaz Sharif will go to jail, says Imran

LAHORE, Pakistan: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan said on Sunday that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif would go to jail rather than merely resigning if he was proved guilty in Panama Papers investigation.

In his address at a large public gathering at the Charing Crossing in Lahore on Sunday, Imran Khan once again urged Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to present himself for accountability and answer the questions raised in the wake of Panama Papers.

The PTI Chief said that Nawaz Sharif should resign immediately as the prime minister since he had lost moral authority to rule the country.

Imran Khan said that they were preparing terms of reference (TORs) and all the opposition parties would ask the federal government to carry out an investigation under the Chief Justice of Pakistan to probe allegations leveled in Panama Papers against the prime minister over his family’s offshore companies.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader said that Nawaz Sharif was accountable on four crimes; money laundering, tax evasion, lying to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and corruption.

Though Imran Khan didn’t give a date regarding Raiwind sit-in but he asked Lahore to be ready for that.

“We will go to Faisalabad next week but Lahore should be ready for Raiwind dharna call against Nawaz Sharif,” he said.

Imran also alleged that in seven years, Sharif family took loans worth Rs6 billion but they never returned the money. He said that Sharif are in power only to make money.

Imran Khan said that if the ruling elite is corrupt, then the whole society is involved in corruption.

Moreover, the PTI Chairman said that our society has forgotten labour but he pledged to lift the labour class out of poverty.

Imran said that if we don’t take care of children of labourers, give them health car and give them funds how will we progress.

“Until I am alive I’ll never back out from the promises i made to you,” Imran said.

A huge number of people including PTI top leaders such as amongst others Jahangir Tareen, Chaudhry Sarwar, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Asad Umar, Aleem Khan and Shafqat Mehmood attended the Jalsa against corruption.

The country’s top singers including Ibrarul Haq, Attaullah Khan Esakhelvi and Malkoo also performed and sang PTI songs in the Jalsa.

The large public gathering in Lahore was part of a series of Jalsas, the PTI had earlier announced to hold across the country to further pressurize the federal government to carry out an impartial and transparent investigation into the Panama Papers revelations.

The PTI just finished an anti-Corruption Campaign in Sindh which was led by Shah Mehmood Qureshi, and its next Jalsa will be held in Multan on May 8 and in Faisalabad on May 13.

Earlier talking to media, the PTI leader Asad Umar said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was caught red handed, so he lost moral reason to continue to rule the country.

“We will not stop until powerful commission is formed to investigate Panama leaks,” he said.

Asad Umar said that Jahangir Tareen and Aleem Khan had given their stance on offshore companies.

Jahangir Tareen said that children of Nawaz Sharif were named in Panama leaks. He said that masses should say NO to corruption.

The PTI leader said that he had already replied to questions of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) multiple times regarding his children’s offshore company. He urged the prime minister to resign till investigation of Panama leaks was accomplished.
