PoliticsSC verdict affected my right of fair trial, says Nawaz Sharif before...

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Monday recorded his statement before the Accountability Court which resumed hearing of Avenfield reference against Sharif family in Islamabad.

In his statement in response to 127 questions sent by the Accountability Court, Nawaz Sharif read out that I am 68 years old. I served as the Chief Minister Punjab and Prime Minister of Pakistan.

The Joint Investigation Team (JIT) was formed on the orders of the Supreme Court. I expressed reservations over JIT members and I had recorded my objection as well. The article 10 of the Constitution gives me this right.

The JIT member Bilal Rasool is a nephew of the former Governor Punjab Mian Azhar. Pictures of Hamad Azhar s/o Mian Azhar were taken along with the Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran khan on Sept 24, 2017. Bilal Rasool’s wife is an active worker of PTI. The JIT head Wajid Zia held investigations through his cousin. His partiality is evident.

The Supreme Court verdict affected my right of a fair trial. The decision should not be given over the basis of mutual legal assistance (MLAs) written by the JIT.

The Case of Irfan Mangi’s appointment is still pending in the Supreme Court while he was included in JIT, Nawaz Sharif read out in the Court.
