ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Federal Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique on Thursday said Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) had not finalized any name as its candidate for the Chairman Senate so far.
Talking to media persons in Islamabad, Saad Rafique said PML-N was grateful to all its allies who assured it of their support.
The minister informed that a team under the leadership of Raja Zafar-Ul-Haq had been formed which would approach all allies and parliamentarians to form next strategy.
Saad Rafique said earlier the former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had suggested the name of Mian Raza Rabbani for the Senate Chairman but it was opposed by the Co-Chairman Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Asif Ali Zardari.
“Only he (Asif Ali Zardari) can tell the reason”, Saad Rafique added.
The PML-N leader pointed out that horse trading must be opposed by all political parties as it was against democratic act. He said PML-N had been deprived from its political symbol before and if now its voters would not be allowed to cast their vote, adding this would affect their strength.
The railways minister further said there was no choice except to allow an elected Senator to cast his vote who had given up his other nationality.
“It is an essential principle to make the elections procedure cleaner,” he said.
