ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The former Prime Minister and Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan has felicitated the new Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Sahir Shamshad Mirza and the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir.

“Congratulations to Gen Sahir Shamshad Mirza as new CJCSC & Gen Syed Asim Munir as new COAS,” Imran Khan wrote on Twitter on Wednesday.

The Chairman PTI expressed hope that the new military leadership will work to end prevailing trust deficit that has built up in the last eight months between the nation and the State.

“Strength of the State is derived from its people,” he wrote.

In his statement, Imran Khan also quoted the saying of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah when he addressed the armed forces on August 14, 1947, “Do not forget that the armed forces are the servants of the people and you do not make national policy; it is we, the civilians, who decide these issues and it is your duty to carry out these tasks with which you are entrusted”.

It’s worth noting that General Asim Munir assumed charge as the 17th COAS at an impressive Change of Command Ceremony at General Headquarters in Rawalpindi on November 29.
