ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhary has said that arrests of Asif Ali Zardari and Hamza Shahbaz have been made on merit and there is no element of political victimization in them.

Talking to media representatives in Islamabad on Tuesday, Fawad Chaudhry said that former President Asif Ali Zardari, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Hamza Shahbaz have been arrested on the orders of the independent judiciary.

The minister said that cases against them were not registered by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government but by Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) against each other.

Fawad Chaudhry further said that the PTI government has fulfilled the promise of laying the strong foundation of accountability in the Country.

The federal minister said that Imran Khan-led government has only provided an enabling environment to the institutions to hold the corrupt elements accountable.

Earlier in the day, a National Accountability Bureau (NAB) team took Hamza Shahbaz into its custody after the Lahore High Court (LHC) rejected his petition for interim bail during the hearing in Lahore.

A two-member bench of LHC headed by Justice Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi heard the case about Hamza Shahbaz’s alleged involvement in Ramzan Sugar Mills case and assets beyond income case.
