ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has strongly condemned the unprovoked shelling and firing by the Afghan Border Forces at Chaman area of Balochistan resulting in martyrdom of several Pakistani citizens.

In a Twitter statement on Monday, the prime minister said that the Afghan Interim government should ensure that such incidents are not repeated.

“Unprovoked shelling & fire by Afghan Border Forces at Chaman resulting in martyrdom of several Pakistani citizens & injuring more than a dozen is unfortunate & deserves the strongest condemnation,” the prime minister wrote on Twitter.

“The Afghan Interim government should ensure that such incidents are not repeated,” he further wrote.

On Sunday, the Afghan Border Forces opened unprovoked and indiscriminate fire of heavy weapons including artillery and mortar onto the civilian population in Chaman causing martyrdom of six civilians with another 17 individuals being injured.

The incident triggered a strong condemnation from Pakistan, saying that such unfortunate incidents are not in keeping with the brotherly ties between the two Countries.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the Afghan authorities have been informed that recurrence of such incidents must be avoided and strictest possible action must be taken against those responsible.
