ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: In an unprecedented development, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Thursday appeared before the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) in Panama probe around two and half hours, becoming the Country’s first prime minister to go through such phase.

Special security arrangements has been carried out when the prime minister arrived at the Federal Judicial Academy in Islamabad to appear before the six-member JIT formed by the Supreme Court of Pakistan to further procced the Panama investigation, involving Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s family members with regard to owning Offshore Companies.

As per available information, 2,500 police personnel had been deployed around the judicial academy to ensure security while a comprehensive traffic diversion plan had also been devised for the area by the City Traffic Police.

Upon his arrival at the judicial academy, the prime minister was accompanied by the Punjab Chief Punjab Shahbaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Hamza Shahbaz and Pervez Rasheed. The prime minister had directed the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders and activists not to gather outside the academy.

However, yet hundreds of the PML-N leaders and workers gathered outside the Federal Judicial Academy building to express solidarity with the prime minister.

The JIT had summoned the prime minister at 11:00 am on June 15, and asked him to bring with him all relevant record and documents.

Earlier, the prime minister’s sons Hussain Nawaz and Hussan Nawaz have already appeared before the JIT multiple times and recorded their statements.

The JIT has summoned the prime minister’s son in law and member of National Assembly Captain Safdar on June 24 while the Punjab Chief Shahbaz Sharif will appear before the JIT on June 17.

In addition, the JIT has also summoned the former Interior Minister Rehman Malik.
