PESHAWAR: At least 35 people were killed, 25 of them in Khyber Pakhunkhwa (KPK), due to widespread rain and snowfall in the country on Tuesday, while over 40 people were also injured across KPK, Dispatch News Desk (DND) reported on Wednesday.
The heavy downpour has been lashing most parts of the country for the last two days. Life has become paralyzed as flooding in rivers and incidents of roof collapse and electrocution took place in various parts of the country.
Peshawar Municipal Corporation Administrator Javed Amjad said the district government has established a disaster management cell to respond quickly in case of emergency.
According to the Met Office, Peshawar received 20 millimetres rain during the last 24 hours and 120 during the last three days. There was forecast of more rain during next 24 hours.
For the next 24 hours, it forecast rain in Upper KPK, Upper Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir, and snowfall in Malakand, Hazara and Gilgit-Baltistan. Likewise, isolated rain is expected in southern parts of Punjab, upper Sindh and northeast Balochistan during the next 24 hours.
