YAKUTSK, Russia: Ambassador of Pakistan to the Russian Federation Faisal Niaz Tirmizi has held separate meetings with the Head of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), Aysen Nikolaev, and President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Yakutia, Marina Bogoslovskaya, to explore new avenues for strengthening cooperation between Pakistan and the Russian region.
Ambassador Tirmizi’s meeting with Aysen Nikolaev marked the first-ever visit by a Pakistani ambassador to the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia).
During the meeting, the two sides discussed prospects for expanding bilateral cooperation, particularly in areas where Pakistan and Yakutia can develop mutually beneficial partnerships.
Nikolaev highlighted Yakutia’s economic potential and appreciated Pakistan’s participation in the “Children of Asia” International Sports Games 2024, where Pakistani athlete Muhammad Shahir won a bronze medal in mass wrestling.
The two sides agreed to further promote sporting ties, noting the shared popularity of mass wrestling in Pakistan and Yakutia. They also discussed a proposal to explore the possibility of hosting a World Championship in mass wrestling in Pakistan in 2027.
The discussions were seen as a promising step towards expanding people-to-people and institutional links between Pakistan and the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia).
In a separate meeting, Ambassador Tirmizi met with Marina Bogoslovskaya, President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), to discuss prospects for expanding trade and business cooperation.
The two sides emphasized the potential for direct business-to-business engagement, building on the existing Memorandum of Understanding between the Yakutia Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI).
Ambassador Tirmizi invited representatives of Yakutia’s business community to participate in business meetings being planned on the sidelines of the upcoming visit of the Prime Minister of Pakistan to Russia.
The Yakutia Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in turn, invited Ambassador Tirmizi to address the Far Eastern Logistics Forum, scheduled to be held in October 2026.
Both sides reaffirmed their readiness to facilitate stronger contacts between the business communities of Pakistan and Yakutia and to identify new opportunities for trade, investment and economic cooperation.
The meetings underscore Pakistan’s growing efforts to broaden engagement with Russia’s regions and develop practical cooperation beyond traditional bilateral channels.
