Bajaur: At least five civilians, including three women, were injured on Thursday after mortar shells allegedly fired by the Afghan Taliban landed in border areas of Bajaur district, security sources said.
According to security officials, the shells fell in the Laghrai and Gurdwa Nawaj areas of Bajaur, causing injuries to local residents and triggering panic among the civilian population.
Hospital sources confirmed that the injured were shifted to Khar Hospital, where they are currently undergoing medical treatment. Doctors said the condition of the injured is stable.
Security sources said the attack came after the Afghan Taliban faced setbacks in clashes with the Pakistan Army along the border. The shelling of civilian areas has sparked strong anger and resentment among the local population of Bajaur, they added.
Meanwhile, security officials said Pakistan’s armed forces are giving a “befitting response” to what they described as cowardly attacks by the Afghan Taliban. They reaffirmed that Pakistan’s security forces remain fully prepared to respond effectively to any act of cross-border aggression and to protect the country’s territorial integrity.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation along the border, while security has been further tightened in the affected areas.
