The provincial authorities are working on upgrading the Bus Rapid Transit System in Karachi to improve the traffic conditions in Pakistan. Thus, Orange Line Bus Karachi is also a project of the BRT System in the city. It has preceded the successful Green Line Bus service initiated by Federal Government.

This is Pakistan’s shortest bus service system, extending from Board Office to Gulshan-e-Zia (Orangi Town). This system connects with a mass transit project in Karachi, Green Line Bus. The route extends to 3.88 kilometres with 18 buses. These buses aim at the transportation of 50,000 citizens daily.

Background

Orange Line Bus Karachi was inaugurated in 2016, but many delays occurred in the official launch. It was initially launched as Orange Line Bus. But, the name was changed to Abdul Sattar Edhi Line to honour the late Abdul Sattar Edhi for his substantial contributions to social work. However, the system is operating in Karachi since 10th September 2022.

Route

Currently, the route of this BRT System extends to 3.88 kilometres. But, the system is part of a massive project extending to around 150 kilometres in Karachi. The route goes through AO Chowk in Nazimabad to Nishan-e-Haider Chowk (Orangi Town).

Ticket and more Feature

There are 18 buses in this BRT System. All of them are fully air-conditioned and accommodate around 90 passengers each. This system is estimated to carry 50,000 passengers on a daily basis.

The ticket price varies from PKR 10 to PKR 20.
