QUETTA, Pakistan: Two policemen were martyred in a targeted attack on the convoy of a police officer in Balochistan’s Capital on Wednesday.

According to the rescue officials, the vehicle of Deputy Superintendent Police (DSP) Hameedullah Dasti – posted in the Prosecution Department – was attacked by three unidentified personnel on Samungli Road in Quetta when the former was travelling to his Office.

The DSP remained unhurt but two police officials – identified as constables Ayub Shah and Muhammad Tahir – accompanying him were martyred in the attack.

Officials said that the firing also caused injury to a child who was rushed to Quetta Civil Hospital.

Meanwhile, the police cordoned off the entire area and collected evidence. They also interrogated the natives for the identification of the culprits.

For a while now, law enforcers across the Balochistan province especially in its Capital Quetta have been the main target of assailants, and often become victim of targeted attack.

On February 14, unknown assistants shot dead four personnel of Frontier Corps (FC) in Dukkani Baba area of Quetta’s Sariab Road.

The Chairman Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari condemned the Quetta incident.

In a statement, Bilawal Bhutto expressed grief and sorrow over the incident. He also expressed condolences and sympathies to the bereaved families of the martyrs.

Commander AFCENT appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in promoting regional peace and vowed to enhance cooperation in the fields of joint training, mutual exercises and military to military collaboration. In a separate meeting, Chief of the Air Staff also called on Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Commander-in-Chief of the Bahrain Defence Force.
