RAWALPINDI, Pakistan: As many as 535 Special Search Operations were launched in different parts of Rawalpindi District during 2017 and netted 2723 accused under National Action Plan (NAP).

The Operations were launched by Rawalpindi District Police as per the special directives of Regional Police Officer (RPO) Wisal Fakhar Sultan Raja and City Police Officer (CPO) Rawalpindi Israr Ahmed Khan Abbasi, according to the Rawalpindi Police Spokesman.

The Rawalpindi Police Spokesman said that heavy police contingents, Elite Force and Ladies police under the supervision of Superintendents Police (SPs) conducted search operations in different areas and searched 61,988 houses, 846 hotels, three hostels, five ‘Sirayas’ while over 189,260 persons were interrogated and checked.

In accordance with the law, action was taken against 19 persons under section 109/55 whereas 122 cases were registered against the accused for having illegal weapons and 49 on recovery of drugs.

Likewise, 12 foreign nationals were sent behind the bars while 180 cases registered against violators of different rules. A total of 530 accused were rounded up in search operations.

The Spokesman informed that under NAP, district police registered FIRs against 54 violators of Sound System Ordinance, 187 wall-chalking ban violators, 480 renting rules violators. He informed that 255 cases for not making proper security arrangements at important places were also lodged.

Similarly, 1458 persons booked for possessing illegal weapons and four for their hate speeches while a total of 2723 rules violators were arrested under NAP during 2017.

The Police Spokesman further informed that police netted 3412 Proclaimed Offenders including 699 most wanted involved in heinous crimes during last year.
