A lot of users have started experiencing connectivity issues while accessing the Wikipedia website in Pakistan. Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has taken action against Wikipedia services in the country over allegations of hosting sacrilegious content. According to a press release issued by the PTA, Wikipedia was given notice and allowed to hear its side regarding removing the said content.
However, as the platform neither complied with the request nor appeared before the Authority, its services were degraded for 48 hours.

PTA stated that in case of non-compliance by Wikipedia, the platform could be blocked within Pakistan. The restoration of Wikipedia services will be considered subject to the removal of the reported unlawful content.
