Renting in Lahore’s oldest locality, Model Town

Lahore, in 2015, portrays a rather different picture than it did in the days when Pakistan gained its independence. Nonetheless, the fact that Lahore is the cultural hub of Pakistan has not changed overtime. The city is home to magnificent buildings such as the beautiful Lahore Fort, the prominent Minar-e-Pakistan and the majestic Badshahi Mosque.

While these historic monuments represent Lahore’s colourful past, a realty landmark that equally extols Lahore’s splendid history is a housing scheme whose development Lahore witnessed even before Pakistan’s independence: Model Town.

Home to wealthy businessmen, affluent politicians and upper-class families in the past, Model Town now attracts people from all walks of life and therefore, many people are now interested in renting a house there.

According to search trends from Zameen.com, Pakistan’s top real estate portal, Model Town was among the 10 most popular localities in Lahore for rental accommodation in February 2015. The average rental price of a 10-marla house in Model Town Lahore was PKR 58,333, increasing by 3.37 percent since January 2015. On the other hand, the average rental price of a 1-kanal house decreased by 2.08 percent since January 2015 to PKR 111,667 in February 2015.

With the above-mentioned average rental values prevalent in the locality, let’s now have a look at the most popular sub localities in Model Town. In February 2015, people were more interested in renting houses in Model Town Block B. Likewise, Block C ranked second in terms of the most searched-for sub-locality, followed by Block A, Model Town Link Road and Block Q in that order.

Model Town is thus one of the oldest housing schemes in Lahore, representing a part of Lahore which is both aristocratic and posh. Established in 1921, Model Town offers luxurious living, plentiful amenities and facilities as well as several work and recreational opportunities. Although in the early days, the locality was considered to be quite far from the city centre, Model Town is now considered one of the focal points of Lahore, ensuring a convenient lifestyle for residents by offering schools, hospitals, parks, restaurants and so much more.

What makes Model Town attractive in the eyes of many is the fact that it offers several comforts of life and almost everything that a family needs to live happily. Hence, despite the emergence of tons of new housing schemes in Lahore, Model Town still remains a highly coveted and sought-after locality in the city.
