PESHAWAR, Pakistan: Prime Minister Imran Khan will inaugurate the much-awaited Peshawar Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) Service on August 13, a sigh of relief for the people as well as for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government which had to face the music for its alleged incompetence and financial irregularities.
In a statement on Tuesday, the Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mahmood Khan said that the project has been completed in more than two years and will solve massive traffic problems of the Provincial Metropolis on a permanent basis besides providing cheap transport services to the commuters.
The Foundation Stone of the Peshawar BRT project was laid by the previous Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak in October 2017 with an assertion that it would be completed within six months.
However, not only its financial cost surged substantially which according to some sources has risen to Rs 68 billion from 49 billion but it also took nearly three years to complete.
Meanwhile, the process of distributing the special ‘Zu Cards’ to the commuters of BRT Peshawar has already begun.
The first 100,000 ‘Zu Cards’ are available for free and anyone holding a CNIC can get the card after biometric verification.
