ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Though Justice Mian Saqib Nisar was sworn in as the Chief Justice of Pakistan on Friday but he would not be the part of new five-member bench to hear the Panamagate, a case which involved Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his family over alleged investments in offshore companies.

The five-member bench of the Supreme Court would be headed by Justice Asif Saeed Khosa, and it would resume hearing of Panama Papers Case from January 4, 2017.

Besides Justice Asif Saeed Khosa, Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan, Justice Gulzar Ahmed, Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed and Justice Ijaz Ul Ahsan would be part of the bench to hear Panama Case.

Earlier in the day, Justice Mian Saqib Nisar took oath as the 25th Chief Justice of Pakistan; however, he wasn’t included in the above mentioned bench.

The previous bench heard the Panama Case till December 9 but later was dissolved due to the retirement of Justice Zaheer Anwar Jamali.

Now the new bench would hear the Case from the beginning, and the counsels of parties would submit their evidences again.

The new bench also might decide to form a Commission to further proceed the Case if it was necessary and agreed by all the contesting parties.
