ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Eid Ul Fitr will fall in Pakistan on Sunday (May 24, 2020) like elsewhere in the world as announced by the Chairman Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Mufti Munib-ur-Rehman.
The announcement of sighting the Moon of Shawwal 1441 AH marked the end of the holy fasting month of Ramazan.
I want our nation to observe this Eid in a different manner from the usual celebratory style. First, let us think of & pray for all those families who have been deprived of their loved ones by the plane crash tragedy & all those who have lost their lives to COVID19.

Second, everyone must remember to observe the SOPs in place for COVID19. The disease is with us & social distancing must be strictly observed throughout the Eid holidays, including during Eid prayers. May Allah bless our nation.

The festival will also be celebrated in the Gulf region including Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Sunday.
However, amid the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Muslims won’t be able to offer Eid prayers at mosques even in Saudi Arabia since they have been shut to halt the spread of the virus.
The Saudi authorities have urged Muslims to perform Eid Ul Fitr prayer 2020 at home as according to the Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdulaziz al-Sheikh as it’s permissible for Muslims to perform such Islamic rituals at home amid the COVID-19 outbreak.
Though in Pakistan, mosques haven’t yet been shut down but worshipers have strictly been asked to adhere to safety guidelines as set under a 20-point agreement to avoid the spread of the novel Coronavirus.
The people have been asked to comply with the following guiltiness to attend the Eid congregations;
- Make ablution at home, and wear the mask
- Offer Eid prayer in an open area as per priority
- Avoid offering prayer on roads or footpaths
- Maintain a six-feet distance to each other while performing the prayer
- Don’t lay down carpets on the floor if prayer is to be offered within the mosque premises
- Wash the floor with chlorine
- People above 50 years of age and children must offer the prayer at home
- Avoid embracing each other, just verbally convey Eid greetings to each other
