NewsHindu extremists ransack PIA office in New Delhi, India assures action

NEW DELHI, India: The Hindu extremists ransacked the office of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) in New Delhi on Thursday; however, the staff remained safe.

“Pakistan Airlines should close down its offices in India,” a protester reportedly said.

The attackers belonged to the right-wing group Hindu Mahasabha.

Talking to media, a PIA spokesman said that the reservation system has stopped working, adding that the Indian government has been asked to provide sufficient security to the PIA office.

The spokesman said that the Pakistan High Commission to India Abdul Basit has been informed about the attack.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner of New Delhi Police assured that appropriate action will be taken against those involved in the incident.

Separately, the Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Vikas Swarup told a press briefing in New Delhi that “Law enforcement agencies will take action in connection with PIA office attack in Delhi.”

It is not the first time that Hindu extremists carried out such attack or tried to further deteriorate the Pakistan-India bilateral relations.

Earlier this month, Shiv Sena activists attacked the Pak-India exhibition in the Deradoon City of Indian state of Jhaarkhand.

The recent vandalism by Hindu extremists followed a terrorist attack on the Indian air base in Pathankot which led to investigations not only in India but also in Pakistan as the terror outfit Jaish-e-Muhammad is suspected of being behind the Pathankot attack.

Pakistan has already taken into custody several members of Jaish-e-Muhammad and announced to send a special investigation team to India for investigation of the Pathankot incident.

Earlier in the day, the Indian foreign ministry spokesman said that the Indian government welcomes Pakistan’s move to form a special investigation team to probe the Pathankot air base attack and will cooperate with Pakistan in the inquiry.

“We look forward to the visit of the Pakistani Special Investigation Team (SIT). We will extend it our full cooperation,” Swarup told a press conference in New Delhi.
