NewsHeaviest rainfall system hitting Karachi

KARACHI, Pakistan: The Cosmopolitan City of Karachi has been hit by one of the heaviest rain system of a decade while yet-to-arrive rainfall may bring the Country’s largest City on verge of being underwater.

Though over 100 mm rainfall has already been registered in Karachi; however according to the Met Office, heaviest rain system is yet to hit Karachi tonight.

Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has indicated that one of the strongest rainfall system has already entered lower parts of the Sindh province particularly Karachi.

It said that strong monsoon currents are penetrating in Karachi and adjoining districts.

Likewise, widespread rain and thunderstorm associated with gusty winds with very heavy rainfall will also strike Mirpurkhas and Hyderabad.

Weather experts believe that heavy to very heavy rainfalls will generate urban flooding in Karachi, Hyderabad and Mirpur Khas including flash flooding in the vulnerable Nullas.

The Sindh government and the Karachi administration are not sharing gravity of the situation with citizens but situation would aggravate on Thursday evening.

The further worrisome aspect is that only 45 percent pf Karachi has drainage system; therefore, major part of the City is likely to go underwater.

As of now, the electricity in most affected areas of Karachi has been suspended to avoid electrocution of people as six people have already been electrocuted.
