Baku, Azerbaijan: A top ranking military delegation led by General Zubair Mahmood Hayat who is a four-star general of the Pakistani Army and currently serving as the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee has arrived Baku for high profiled bilateral military talks.

Two-day visit that started on November 22 will enhance military to military relations between Pakistan and Azerbaijan, commented Ministry of Defence of Azerbaijan.

Agenda items for talks include joint military training, procurement of military hardware, exercises, military cooperation and tailoring future vision for bilateral military relations. It should be noted that Pakistan and Azerbaijan signed a defense agreement in May of 2003 and Azerbaijani military staff and members of special units are getting regular trainings from Pakistan Army and participating in annual military exercises.

The former Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif had excellent relations with president Ilham Aliyev and both leaders during their meeting in October last year decided for further enhancement of their military relations.

It is pertinent to mention that Pakistan was the first country that recognised Azerbaijan as an independent state and Pakistan has no diplomatic relations with Armenia as it stands with Azerbaijan and supports Azarbaijani stance over conflict with Armenia.

It should be noted that talks between military leaderships of Pakistan and Azerbaijan held in Ministry of Defence in Baku. The delegation would also visit other state structures during its stay in Azarbaijan.
