RAWALPINDI, Pakistan: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested 11 senior officers of Capital Development Authority (CDA) including six directors and two deputy directors on charges of alleged abatement for illegal encroachment of state land.

A senior FIA official confirming the arrest of CDA officials told media here Tuesday that the arrests were made following an inquiry held by the Agency on charges of corruption, abatement and connivance of the officers for establishing illegal ‘Katchi Abadis’ (slums) on the CDA’s land.

He said the Ministry of Interior had directed the FIA to carry out the inquiry vide letter No 1.2/2015-DS(FIA) of September 21, 2015.

Action against the CDA officials had been taken in the light of the inquiry which found their involvement/abatement in illegal occupation of CDA’s land from time to time since 2009.

The officers arrested include Capt Shahbaz Tahir, Director Enforcement, Rizwan Ahmed Shamshad, Director Environment, Azhar Khurshid, Director Enforcement, Syed Sajjad Ali Shah, Director Environment, Ramzan Joya, Director Enforcement, Naveed Ul Haq, Director Enforcement, Abdul Latif, Deputy Director Environment, Muhammad Ata Ullah, Deputy Director Enforcement, Abdul Jabbar, Assistant Director, Muhammad Iqbal, Supervisor Enforcement and Shahid Iqbal SI.

These officers had been posted on the respective posts since 2009 and were arrested for abetting in the establishment of slums on green belts in H-9 and H-10 sectors.

The arrested officers will be produced before the court soon for seeking remand.

The inquiry report also revealed that some 56 Katchi Abadis had been set up through illegal occupation at various locations in abatement of CDA officials.

The FIA, however, has to yet receive relevant records from CDA to proceed further.
