Electric Buses - The Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry on Wednesday announced that Electric Buses would begin plying in Pakistan in 2020. In a Twitter statement, Fawad Chaudhry said that taking a step towards fulfilling the promise of ensuring that Electric Buses run across the Country, Daewoo Pakistan Express Bus Service Limited and Skywell Automobile, China would Sign a Strategic Alliance Agreement. The federal minister said they would begin the indigenous manufacturing of Electric Buses in Pakistan in the next three years.

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry on Wednesday announced that Electric Buses would begin plying in Pakistan in 2020.

In a Twitter statement, Fawad Chaudhry said that taking a step towards fulfilling the promise of ensuring that Electric Buses run across the Country, Daewoo Pakistan Express Bus Service Limited and Skywell Automobile, China would Sign a Strategic Alliance Agreement in Islamabad on Wednesday.

The federal minister said they would begin the indigenous manufacturing of Electric Buses in Pakistan in the next three years.

Later while speaking at the MoU Signing Ceremony between the two Companies, Fawad Chaudhry said the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) would lead to introduce an Electrical Vehicles Chain in Pakistan which would help reduce air pollution as well.

In the first phase, US$ 50 million would be invested in building the infrastructure while in the second phase, the manufacturing of electric buses would start in Pakistan within the next three years.

The minister said Pakistan would be the first Country in Asia that would have Electric Vehicles.

Fawad Chaudhry said the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government was working to promote Pakistan’s new Energy Vehicles Policy.

In his remarks at the Signing Ceremony, the Chinese Ambassador Yao Jing said the governments and peoples of the two Countries were working together for the development and strengthening of bilateral ties.

Yao Jing appreciated the role of Pakistan in providing facilities to the Private Sector for strengthening the business-to-business relationship between Pakistan and China.

The Chinese ambassador said several power plants were also being set up under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) to overcome power shortage.
