ATTOCK, Pakistan: The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Thursday visited Bahadur Ranges near Attock and witnessed Pak-Jordan joint exercise “Fajr-ul-Sharq 1”, two weeks long joint counter terrorism training event to share experience of both armies.

While speaking on the occasion, the COAS congratulated the participants on successful conduct of the exercise and appreciated high standards of professional competence displayed by the troops.

The COAS said that conduct of such joint exercises helps improving professional expertise in conducting CT operations.

The Army Chief said that nature and character of war has changed where direct conflict has gone an un-preferred choice.

“While Pakistan Armed Forces are fully trained and ready for response to full spectrum threat, our achievements in counter terrorism operations are being taken as successful case studies,” the COAS said according to the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR).

“Pakistan has successfully defeated terrorism and is now in consolidation phase. Such engagements are source of mutual sharing, learning and benefit.”

The COAS thanked Jordanian Army and the contingent for their participation in this first special forces collaboration and expressed his desire to continue this engagement.

Later, COAS interacted with the participants.

Earlier on arrival at training area, the COAS was received by Commander Peshawar Corps Lt General Nazir Ahmed Butt and Inspector General Training and Evaluation (IGT&E) Lt General Hidayat ur Rehman.

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) Special Services Group was also present at the occasion.

On the sidelines of Bahrain International Airshow, Commander of Ninth Air Force (US Air Forces Central Command — AFCENT), Lieutenant General Derek France called on Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force. The Air Chief reiterated his resolve to further enhance the existing bilateral cooperation between the two strategic partners. Commander AFCENT appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in promoting regional peace and vowed to enhance cooperation in the fields of joint training, mutual exercises and military to military collaboration. In a separate meeting, Chief of the Air Staff also called on Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Commander-in-Chief of the Bahrain Defence Force.
