NewsCDA to remove all trees causing pollen allergy

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Capital Development Authority (CAA) has decided to remove all paper mulberry trees which are causing pollen allergy in the Federal Capital.

“CDA decided to remove only those paper mulberry trees which produced and shed pollen whereas the female trees were harmless and would be retained, enlistment of male paper mulberry has been started” said an official of CDA.

He said male paper mulberry was considered a major source of allergy which needed eradication but strong opposite views against the complete removal of this tree had also received from environmentalists.

He said removal of male tree would be taken up under gradual program for replacing them with Amaltas, Kashnar, Jaman and Chir pine etc.

During the last two decades, the civic agency chopped more than 40,000 paper mulberry trees. However, he said approximately 60,000 trees were still growing in the capital territory, particularly in the National Park area where removal of trees was not allowed.

He said environmentalists were of the views that drastic cutting of the trees would result in the loss of greenery.

To a question, he said about banning of pollythene bags, steps were being taken for ensuring the ban on the use of bags.

He, however, said stopping the manufacturing of plastic bags did not come under the preview of the CDA.

In 2013, the federal government imposed the ban on the use, manufacturing, import and sale of non-degradable plastic products in the Federal Capital.

Moscow says it won’t allow US to silence UNSC on Israeli violence against Palestinians Monitoring Desk: Russian envoy in United Nations Vasily Nebenzya said that the UN Security Council should bring peace, stability and prosperity to the Middle East and Russia would not allow United States to silence UNSC over the issue of Gaza crisis. According to TASS news Agency, Nebenzya said that Moscow will continue to call for an end to violence against Palestinians and will not allow the US to muzzle the UN Security Council as Washington seeks to support Israel's operation in Gaza. "We will continue to stand firmly for ending violence against the Palestinians. Without a shadow of a doubt, we will continue to expose the abuses and sanctimony with which the US is handling the situation.
