ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Stone carving and lacquer art training workshop in full swing here at Lok Virsa under the craft of the month series.

The training workshop was started on May 2 and would continue till May 8 here at Heritage Museum.

Master artisans in these two craft fields are demonstrating their work and provide hands on training to children under age 7-14 years for a week.

The participants are learning the complete process involved in stone carving from sharpening chisels and selecting stone to laying out, tackling a three-dimensional design and the stages involved in carving, sanding and refining an original free-form artwork or a masonry section, for example: molding, decorative or architectural feature.

The purpose of the programme is to create knowledge among younger generation about the rich craft heritage of Pakistan.

Stone carving is an ancient activity where pieces of rough natural stone are shaped by the controlled removal of stone. Owing to the permanence of the material, stone work has survived which was created during our prehistory.
