ISLAMABAD: The new power policy has been finalized at a high level meeting chaired by the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Islamabad on Saturday; the policy will be announced shortly.

The new policy aims to increase power generation up to 26‚800 MW‚ reduce average electricity rates by more than 30 percent and achieve zero load-shedding.

It also stresses to encourage huge public and private investment and import electricity from India‚ Iran and Central Asian states in three years.

Addressing the meeting‚ the Prime Minister said the new policy will help resolving energy shortage in the country.

The Prime Minister said people and economy have suffered badly by power crisis and it is high time to take prudent and consistent policies to come out of this morass.
