HONG KONG: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday met the Chief Executive-elect of Hong Kong’s Special Administrative Region Carrie Lam, and discussed the potential of Pakistan and Hong Kong to tap their potential to the maximum.

During the meeting, the prime minister congratulated Carrie Lam on her overwhelming victory in the elections of the Chief Executive of Hong Kong and also felicitated her on becoming the first female head of the government.

The prime minister appreciated the contributions of Carrie Lam for maintaining the position of Hong Kong as global leader in financial services and trade.

Nawaz Sharif mentioned that Hong Kong’s 35,000 Pakistani origin residents were making valuable contribution in all spheres of economic activities.

The prime minister apprised the Chief Executive-elect on his participation in the Belt and Road Forum in Beijing and his meetings with the Chinese leadership. He highlighted the achievements of Pakistan’s economy and progress on China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

In his remarks, Carrie Lam said that Pakistan and Hong Kong have deep relationship based on people to people contacts. She hoped that the relationship between Hong Kong and Pakistan will get stronger in future.

The two sides also discussed matters related to bilateral investment and education sector including increasing number of scholarships for students in Hong Kong universities.

The Federal Minister for Commerce Engineer Khurram Dastgir Khan, the Chairman Board of investment (BOI) Mifta Ismail and Pakistani Ambassador in China Masood Khalid were also present during the meeting.

Separately, the prime minister also met the Chairman ZTE Yin Yimin in Hong Kong.

The prime minister said that Pakistan has turned into a vibrant economy. He said that the development of Hong Kong is exemplary.

Sharif said that Pakistan is an investment friendly Country and investors from Hong Kong must exploit the immense opportunities available in Pakistan.

The prime minister apprised the Chairman ZTE on his productive visit to Beijing. He said that One Belt One Road is a great initiative of the Chinese leadership.
