Astana, Kazakhstan: Nawaz, Nazarbayev meeting in Astana decided to start a new page in bilateral relations.

Addressing a joint press conference with Kazakh President Nazarbayev after his meeting with Kazakh President and at concluding his visit to Astana, Pakistani Prime Minister thanked Kazakhstan for supporting Pakistan for its full membership in SCO. He confirmed that Pakistan would support Kazakhstan for its non-permanent membership in Security Council of United Nations.  Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev and Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif of Pakistan signed a joint statement after talks in expanded format.

“In light of new realities, it is time to start a new page in the bilateral relations between Kazakhstan and Pakistan,” said the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev at the meeting with Pakistani Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif here on Wednesday. Talks were held in Akorda— The Presidential Office of Kazakhstan.

“Mr. Prime Minister, let me once again warmly welcome you in Kazakhstan, and through you the members of the Pakistani delegation. I am sure that your visit is a good fresh impetus to revitalize our relations, which we have laid in a meeting in 1992. I remember that meeting and Kazakhstan will never forget that Pakistan is one of the first countries to support our independence “, said Nursultan Nazarbayev.

The Kazakh President noted that the similarity of relations between Kazakhstan and Pakistan on the international agenda, the centuries-old ties of friendship and cultural ties make the two states close fraternal countries. And in the light of the new realities of the time has come to start a new page in bilateral relations. The Head of State expressed confidence that the visit of Prime Minister of Pakistan will contribute to further development of relations between the two countries in that direction.

It maybe mentioned that Pakistan Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif was also the then Prime Minister when President held first visit to Pakistan and Pakistan accepted Kazakhstan as independence state.

Pakistan and Kazakhstan held delegations level talks in Astana today and discussed ways and means to enhance cooperation in different fields between the two countries.

President Nursultan Nazarbayev led his delegation while Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif headed the Pakistan delegation at the talks.

“Pakistan and Central Asia, Kazakhstan intends to expand its relationship with all countries. We have cooperation in energy, trade and economy including transport sectors to develop in many directions. Radio Pakistan reported that both sides discussed to increase cooperation between the two countries in the fields of trade, economy, energy and science and technology.  They considered matters relating to establishment of strong economic and trade relations. They agreed that the joint ministerial commission will prepare a roadmap for increasing trade and economic cooperation.

It may be mentioned that the Deputy Minister of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan Talgat Mukhtar Khan and the Pakistani Ambassador Mr. Khan signed an agreement on the training of military personnel between the Ministries of Defence of the two countries while president of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry Mohammad Idress signed agreement for the establishment of a joint business council before joint press conference of both the presidents.

 

It may be mentioned that Pakistan Prime Minister reached at Astana on Tuesday and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Yerlan Idrissov welcomed the Prime Minister of Pakistan in the Astana airport. It is planned that bilateral talks with President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev will be held within this trip. Besides, a number of documents are planned to be signed as well.
