Nawaz makes polio vaccination mandatory for travellers from FATA

ISLAMABAD: The army will be deployed to ensure that travellers from the Federal Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) to settled areas are administered polio vaccination, a statement issued by the PM House in Islamabad said on Thursday.

   

The statement said that those who refuse to take the polio vaccination will not be allowed to enter settled areas.

Meanwhile, a meeting of the federal cabinet was held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Islamabad which discussed in detail the polio situation, difficulties and ways and means to make the anti-polio campaign more effective.

During the meeting, the prime minister said that he would himself oversee the anti-polio drive and Pakistan would soon become a polio-free country. He said that steps are being taken on an emergent basis to get rid of the disease.

The prime minister said that the army chief has been asked to ensure access of polio workers to every nook and cranny of the country.

Sharif also gave directions for removal of hurdles in the way of the drive and called for sustained efforts to remove misgivings about polio vaccine.
