NationalSection 144 imposed in Punjab for one week

LAHORE, Pakistan: The Punjab government has imposed Section 144 through the province for one week in an apparent attempt to halt possible protests against arrest of Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) leader Khadim Rizvi.

In this regard, the Additional Chief Secretary Interior issued a notification on Saturday (November 24, 2018), which states that Section 144 will remain imposed across Punjab till December 1.

Under Section 144, gathering of four to five people and holding of any procession or rallies have been banned.

Likewise, display and usage of all kinds of weapons have also been banned in Punjab till that period.

The initiative has been taken to avoid any untoward situation and possible protests against the custody of TLP leader Khadim Hussain Rizvi.

Last night, the Punjab police took Khadim Rizvi into protective custody from Lahore and shifted him to a guest house.

Though a crackdown against TLP activists had already been continuing across the Country after some of them resorted to violence and inflicted damage to public properties during the three-day sit-in earlier this month.

However, last night’s crackdown and arrest of 95 persons including Khadim Rizvi took place under 03-MPO to halt the TLP’s plan of holding another public gathering in Rawalpindi on November 25 for Khatm-e-Nabuwwat Martyrs.

After Khadim Rizvi’s arrest, the TLP Chief Pir Mohammad Afzal Qadri called for countrywide protests.

Moscow says it won’t allow US to silence UNSC on Israeli violence against Palestinians Monitoring Desk: Russian envoy in United Nations Vasily Nebenzya said that the UN Security Council should bring peace, stability and prosperity to the Middle East and Russia would not allow United States to silence UNSC over the issue of Gaza crisis. According to TASS news Agency, Nebenzya said that Moscow will continue to call for an end to violence against Palestinians and will not allow the US to muzzle the UN Security Council as Washington seeks to support Israel's operation in Gaza. "We will continue to stand firmly for ending violence against the Palestinians. Without a shadow of a doubt, we will continue to expose the abuses and sanctimony with which the US is handling the situation. We will not allow the Americans to gag the entire council with their hands in an effort to encourage further continuation of Israel's ruthless operation," he said in a speech at the Security Council.
