ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Rangers and police have been deployed in the Federal Capital to maintain law and order after the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) leader Khadim Hussain Rizvi was taken into protective custody last night.

The TLP had plans to organize a public gathering at Liaquat Bagh in Rawalpindi on Sunday (November 25, 2018) to commemorate the Martyrs of Khatm-e-Nabuwwat.

However, the security forces last night took the TLP Leader Khadim Rizvi into protective custody to safeguard public life, property and honour, the Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry said in a tweet.

Fawad Chaudhry said that the government tried its level best to convince the religious-political party to call off its planned gathering but its leadership refused every offer and started to provoke violence. He requested the public to stay peaceful and calm.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Muhammad Hamza Shafqaat said on Twitter on Saturday that all roads of Islamabad are open for traffic, and commuters may travel as per their schedule.

The Deputy Commissioner Islamabad said that Rangers and police personnel have been deployed for security and to maintain law and order.

Hamza Shafqaat warned that strict action is to be taken against anyone who tries to breach the law or disturb public tranquility.

Separately, the Punjab Chief Minister’s Spokesman Shahbaz Gill also confirmed the news of Khadim Rizvi’s arrest in a video statement, saying it was done as a precautionary measure.

Shahbaz Gill also asked the people to cooperate with the government and informed via 15 if they find anyone damaging the public properties or blocking roads.
