High traffic congestion areas in Islamabad

During 2007 to 2022, the population of Islamabad has been increased from 7,25000 to 20,01,579 as well as vehicular population from 1,69,788 to 14,11,170 as registered by ETO Islamabad, apart from daily entry of vehicles from neighboring Cities i.e., Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum & Murree while the resources of Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) are reduced as compared to 2005.

Yet the ITP is striving hard to maintain smooth flow of traffic and to facilitate the road commuters in Islamabad with its available meager resources.

Special deployment has been made during rush hours i.e., School/College & Office Timing from 0700 to 0900 hours in morning & 1230 to 1430 hours in evening to manage traffic flow in the Capital.

No major traffic congestion has been observed on roads of Islamabad during the last year 2022; however, minor traffic over-crowding was faced due to construction of following roads:

1. IJP Road from Faizabad to Mehrabad Flyover.
2. 10th Avenue from Katarian Bridge to Srinagar Highway.
3. Rawal Darn Flyover.
4. Chand Tara Flyover.
5. Islamabad Expressway from Gulberg to Rawat T Cross.
6. Bhara Kahu Bypass.

An internal survey was conducted on October 31, 2022 to identify the traffic over-crowded points, for which special deployment has been made to maintain smooth flow of traffic.
