LAHORE, Pakistan: The Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Qamar Zaman Chaudhry said on Wednesday that corruption rate in the Country was being declined due to the steps taken by the bureau against corrupt mafia.

Talking to media during an annual review meeting about performance of the regional office held at the NAB Punjab Office in Lahore, he said that international agencies also accepted decline in corruption in Pakistan in their data.

The Chairman NAB said that Pakistan had improved his position by nine points in the international ranking in a report presented by the Transparency International regarding the anti-corruption efforts.

Qamar Zaman Chaudhry said that Pakistan’s ranking in the Corruption Perception Index (CPI) had improved to 61st above most corrupt countries from 52nd this year, adding that Pakistan was prominent in the countries of South Asia in the efforts against eradication of corruption.

Moreover, he said that the country was running speedily towards the mile-stone of corruption-free country while the NAB was focusing on the awareness of people besides preventive measures and enforcement of laws so that the corruption could be nipped in the bud.

The Chairman NAB said that now several South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) countries were interested in getting guidance from Pakistan for elimination of corruption.
