ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The National Assembly was told that a total amount of Rs 519.335 billion has been recovered by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on account of direct and indirect recoveries during the tenure of incumbent Chairman NAB Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal.

Responding to a question raised by Jam Abdul Karim Bijar, the Minister for Law and Justice Dr. Muhammad Farogh Naseem apprised the House in writing that out of the recovered amount, Rs 502.231 billion has been transferred to the respective government entities/beneficiaries and affectees of various scams.

The minister said that the recovered amount is not utilized by the NAB. He said that the responsibility of utilization rests with the respective government entities/beneficiaries.

Reply to another question, the minister apprised the House that the Council of Ideology, in recent years, suggested amendments in the Muslims Family Laws Ordinance, 1961 which is pertaining to the Ministry of Law and Justice.

The law minister told that in light of suggestions of the Council, Law and Justice Division proposed amendments in section 4 and section 7 of the Ordinance ibid and introduced Bills in the National Assembly which were passed on June 10, 2021 by the National Assembly and transmitted to the Senate on June 17 and 24, 2021 respectively but the Senate did not pass the Bills within 90 days and returned the same to the National Assembly which are now pending in the National Assembly for consideration in the joint session of Majlis-e-Shoora (Parliament).
